The annual Houzz & Home – Australia, home renovation overview found that in 2018 over half of homeowners (57%) were planning to renovate their home. The 2017 analysis found that activity and home renovation spend was strong in 2017 with over 50% of homeowners renovating their home at a median spend of $25k, with repeat home buyers spending twice the amount in comparison to first-time home buyers.

Activity and spend: kitchens and bathrooms.

It’s no surprise that kitchens were the most frequent interior remodel to occur in households in  2017 with more than a quarter of homeowners undertaking a kitchen renovation (26%). Additional percentages include the living/family rooms (24%), bedrooms/other (18%), master bathrooms (18%) and laundries (17%). Findings revealed that repeat (38%) and first-time (31%) home buyers were more likely to undergo a kitchen renovation in comparison to long-term (24%) homeowners. Kitchens were the most costly renovation job coming in with a median spend of $20k for a large kitchen (more than 10m²), followed by large master bathrooms (more than 5m²) coming in at a $13k median spend.
